COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Interior Architecture program develops advanced knowledge of spatial design through a series of compulsory modules that combine theory, research, and practical design exploration. Students begin by studying Spatial Qualities, which introduces the concept of space in modern contexts and encourages critical analysis of interior environments in relation to cultural and historical conditions. Affordance: Practices of Social Space explores interiors as social environments, focusing on how design can support community, interaction, and cultural cohesion through reflective and multidisciplinary approaches. Design Variables: Technology and Experience examines materiality, construction, fabrication, and environmental performance, helping students develop design strategies grounded in how spaces are physically experienced by users. Furnitecture: Research and Design introduces flexible, hybrid design forms that exist between furniture and architecture, encouraging innovation in adaptable interior environments. Social Space: Research and Design is a major studio-based module where students develop professional-level design responses to real contextual and social challenges. Research Methods and Design provides training in qualitative and quantitative research techniques to support academic inquiry. The program concludes with a substantial dissertation that combines written and visual work, allowing students to present a deep research investigation into a chosen social space within its cultural and physical context, demonstrating advanced critical, analytical, and design skills.
