COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Digital Craft in Architecture program at Oxford Brookes University combines advanced digital design, fabrication technologies, and traditional craftsmanship to prepare students for innovative careers in architecture and design research. The Advanced Digital Practice module develops expertise in computational design, scripting, and data-driven methods, helping students move beyond standard software use to create and rationalise complex architectural forms. Design for Digital Manufacture and Assembly connects digital design with real-world production processes, giving students practical experience in fabrication workshops where they prototype projects and learn how materials, manufacturing, and assembly influence design outcomes. The Contextual Theory module strengthens critical thinking and postgraduate research skills by exploring important historical and theoretical ideas in architecture, technology, and digital design while also introducing the use of advanced AI research tools. Students then apply their knowledge in the Collaborative Project module, where they work with academic or industry partners on live design challenges, developing research proposals, methodologies, and proof-of-concept prototypes that reflect professional research and development practices. The program concludes with a substantial Final Project, where students produce an ambitious and highly developed design thesis integrating research, fabrication, and innovative architectural thinking. Throughout the course, students gain practical, technical, and analytical skills while building experience in digital fabrication, computational design, and creative problem-solving, preparing them for careers in architecture, digital design, fabrication technologies, and interdisciplinary creative industries.
