COURSE CURRICULUM

This BSc in Sport, Physical Activity and Health Promotion focuses on using exercise, nutrition, and behaviour change science to improve health, prevent disease, and support rehabilitation across diverse populations. In Year 1, students build core foundations in nutrition, anatomy, physiology, psychology of sport and food behaviour, fitness assessment, and health promotion, developing an understanding of how lifestyle factors influence wellbeing. Year 2 develops applied knowledge through modules on physical activity across the lifespan, determinants of health, motivation and behaviour change, exercise prescription for clinical populations, and research methods, alongside applied human nutrition and work experience opportunities. Students learn to design evidence-based interventions, analyse health inequalities, and support behaviour change strategies for individuals and communities. Year 3 focuses on advanced application, including clinical rehabilitation, public health policy, obesity and energy regulation, clinical nutrition, and emerging technologies in health and exercise, alongside a dissertation. Optional modules such as strength and conditioning, applied psychology, and work experience further enhance employability. Overall, the degree combines science, clinical application, and public health perspectives to prepare graduates for careers in healthcare, rehabilitation, fitness, and health promotion. It develops strong practical skills in exercise prescription, nutritional understanding, research, and behaviour change, enabling students to work with both clinical populations and the wider public to improve health outcomes.
