COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport, Coaching and Physical Education degree is designed to develop students into reflective, skilled practitioners capable of improving sporting performance and participation across a range of contexts, including schools, community sport, and elite environments. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in areas such as sport pedagogy, human movement, fitness assessment, coaching principles, sociology, psychology, and professional skills, combining theory with practical coaching experiences. The focus is on understanding how athletes learn, how movement and skill are developed, and how coaching can be effectively applied in real settings. In the second year, learning becomes more applied and analytical, with modules on coaching practice, research methods, work experience, and optional areas such as performance analysis, sports development, psychology, and talent identification. Students also explore pedagogical practice, training principles, and global issues in sport, while gaining hands-on experience through placements and applied projects. In the final year, students complete a dissertation and advance their coaching expertise through higher-level practice modules, alongside optional study in areas such as strength and conditioning, inclusive pedagogies, social theory in sport, and applied psychology. Professional practice modules also prepare students for employment by addressing ethical, legal, and industry challenges. Across all years, the course integrates theory, practical coaching, research, and real-world experience to prepare graduates for careers in coaching, teaching, performance analysis, and sport development.
