COURSE CURRICULUM

Sport and Exercise Science (BSc Hons) at Oxford Brookes University is a practical and research-informed degree that explores how the human body responds to exercise and how this knowledge can improve performance, health, and wellbeing. In Year 1, students build core foundations in nutrition, human physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, psychology of sport, and movement science, alongside professional skills and fitness assessment. These modules develop an understanding of how the body moves, adapts, and performs during physical activity. Year 2 builds on this with applied physiology, biomechanics, psychology, research methods, and health-focused modules, alongside options such as nutrition, performance analysis, sports development, and laboratory techniques. Students also gain real-world experience through work placements and independent study, strengthening practical and analytical skills. In Year 3, learning becomes more specialised and applied through a dissertation or final project, advanced sport science practice, and optional modules such as strength and conditioning, sports injuries, rehabilitation, advanced psychology, and emerging sports technology. Fieldwork and industry-linked experiences further enhance professional readiness. Across the degree, students develop strong laboratory, analytical, and coaching skills supported by expert teaching and applied learning environments. Graduates are prepared for careers in sport performance, coaching, health promotion, rehabilitation, and exercise science, as well as postgraduate study or professional accreditation in sport and exercise fields.
