COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management degree focuses on the financial, legal, and managerial aspects of construction projects, preparing students for professional roles in cost and contract management. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge in construction practice, building design, law, measurement, communication technologies, and building services, alongside introductory projects that develop teamwork, sustainability awareness, and basic technical and analytical skills. In Year 2, learning becomes more advanced and applied, covering construction technology, procurement, contract administration, BIM systems, and design processes, while students work on integrative projects and develop skills in cost estimation, surveying practice, and project coordination. This stage also prepares students for industry placement and strengthens problem-solving, regulatory understanding, and professional communication. In Year 3, students focus on higher-level topics such as financial control, procurement strategy, dispute resolution, and commercial management, supported by a major dissertation and simulation-based learning. Optional modules such as project management, facilities management, and building pathology allow further specialisation. Across all years, the program integrates digital tools like BIM, real-world case studies, and collaborative projects to reflect industry practice. Accredited by RICS and CIOB, the degree provides a direct pathway to chartered status and prepares graduates for careers in quantity surveying, commercial management, construction consultancy, and project leadership roles within the built environment sector.
