COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Therapy BSc (Hons) program combines theoretical learning, professional practice, and research to prepare students for a career supporting people to improve their independence and quality of life. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology, occupational science, therapeutic communication, health informatics, and core occupational therapy skills. They learn how health, disability, and ageing affect participation in daily activities while developing professional reasoning, safeguarding awareness, and assessment skills. In Year 2, the focus expands to working with adults, children, young people, and families across physical and mental health settings. Students explore intervention planning, collaborative healthcare practice, research methods, and interdisciplinary teamwork while completing professional placements that strengthen practical experience and confidence. Modules also develop critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and understanding of long-term conditions and social participation. In Year 3, students prepare for autonomous professional practice through advanced placements, leadership and management training, specialist occupational therapy workshops, and a dissertation project. They develop skills in service evaluation, innovation, advocacy, public health, and occupational justice while strengthening their research and professional abilities. Throughout the course, students gain extensive real-world experience in varied healthcare and community environments, preparing them to become compassionate, reflective, and competent occupational therapists capable of working effectively in multidisciplinary teams and supporting people across diverse settings and stages of life.
