COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Geography program provides students with a broad and flexible understanding of both human and physical geography, preparing them to tackle major global challenges such as climate change, sustainability, urbanisation, migration, environmental hazards and geopolitical change. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in human and physical geography, sustainability, research methods and geographical skills such as mapping, surveying and data analysis. The second year develops advanced research and fieldwork abilities through residential field trips and modules exploring global development, environmental hazards, GIS, political geography, conservation, migration, urban studies and Earth systems. Students gain practical experience using industry-standard technologies and conducting independent investigations. In the final year, students complete a dissertation on a topic of personal interest while choosing from specialist modules including climate change, sustainable futures, marine environments, future cities, cultural geography, borders, arid environments and humanitarian development. Throughout the course, students develop analytical, critical thinking, research and communication skills through fieldwork, laboratory work and independent projects. The program encourages students to understand the relationships between people, environments and global systems while preparing them for careers in sustainability, planning, environmental management, policy, research, business, charities and international development.
