COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology and Law BSc (Hons) combines the study of crime, criminal justice, and legal systems, giving students a strong understanding of both criminology and law. The course develops valuable skills such as legal analysis, problem-solving, persuasive communication, and critical thinking while exploring how crime is understood and controlled in society. In the first year, students build foundations in criminal law, criminological theory, media and crime, legal methods, and communication skills for lawyers. Year two deepens this knowledge through modules on criminal justice, research methods, evidence, digital crime, and the relationship between law and society, while also offering opportunities for work-based learning and specialised topics like globalisation, intersectionality, and international law. In the final year, students complete an interdisciplinary dissertation on a topic of personal interest and can choose advanced modules in areas such as artificial intelligence and computer law, international human rights, policing, immigration and asylum, forensic anthropology, drug policy, and sexual offences. Throughout the degree, students gain practical and research experience, supported by expert academics, guest lectures, and career events, preparing them for careers in law, criminal justice, policing, policy, or further academic study.
