COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science BSc (Hons) program is structured over three years to progressively develop programming, mathematical, and software engineering skills while preparing students for a wide range of careers in computing. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Problem Solving and Programming, Computer Science Applications, and Foundations of Computer Systems, which introduce core areas like software development, networking, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and hardware systems. They also study Professional Programming Practice, Mathematics for Computing, and Object-Oriented Programming to develop coding proficiency and analytical thinking. In Year 2, the focus shifts to more advanced topics including Databases, Applied Software Engineering, and Software Development with C and C++, alongside key theoretical areas such as security, computation, data structures, algorithms, and web application development. Students also explore enterprise engineering to gain entrepreneurial and teamwork experience. In Year 3, students undertake a major Computing Project or dissertation, allowing independent research in a chosen area. They also study advanced modules such as Artificial Intelligence, Secure Programming, Cloud Computing and the Internet of Things, Advanced Interfaces, and Advanced Object-Oriented Programming. Overall, the degree combines theory, practical programming, and real-world applications to equip students with technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and industry-ready skills for careers in software development, data science, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.
