COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biological Sciences BSc (Hons) program provides a broad and research-focused education across molecular biology, genetics, ecology, conservation, biochemistry, and cell biology. In Year 1, students build strong scientific foundations through modules in cell biology, genetics, biodiversity, biochemistry, quantitative skills, and science communication, while developing laboratory, analytical, and academic skills. Optional fieldwork and biochemistry modules further strengthen practical experience. In Year 2, the course advances into molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, bioinformatics, plant sciences, conservation, and developmental biology. Students learn laboratory techniques, data analysis, computational biology, and career planning, while exploring real-world biological challenges such as endangered species conservation, disease mechanisms, and environmental sustainability. Optional modules allow students to specialise in areas including microbiology, threatened species, plant biology, and biochemistry. In Year 3, students refine their professional and research expertise through a major independent research project and advanced practical training. Specialised optional modules include genomics, cancer biology, neurobiology, wildlife conservation, bio-imaging, evolution, and science ethics. The course combines theoretical understanding with hands-on scientific investigation, developing communication, critical thinking, and technical skills. Graduates are well prepared for careers in biotechnology, healthcare, environmental management, conservation, research, pharmaceuticals, and postgraduate scientific study.
