COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Accounting and Economics program at Oxford Brookes University is structured over three years, combining core accounting training with economic theory and applied skills. In Year 1, students study foundational modules such as financial accounting fundamentals, macroeconomics, microeconomics, essential analytic skills, management accounting fundamentals, and quantitative methods for economics and finance. These introduce key concepts in accounting systems, economic behaviour, and analytical techniques. In Year 2, the program becomes more advanced, covering financial reporting, advanced financial and management accounting, macroeconomics II, and microeconomics II, alongside personal and professional development. Students also choose optional modules such as corporate finance, personal taxation, applied econometrics, auditing theory, and data analytics, allowing them to tailor their learning toward their career interests. Year 3 focuses on specialisation and critical analysis through modules like accounting capstone or perspectives on global challenges, financial accounting theory, business aspects of management accounting, and contemporary issues in economics. Optional modules include advanced financial management, business taxation, environmental economics, sustainable investing, advanced econometrics, and applied audit and assurance. Across all years, the course integrates theory with real-world application, helping students develop technical, analytical, and professional skills for careers in accounting, finance, and economics.
