COURSE CURRICULUM

Electro-Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) at Oxford Brookes is a three-year program that develops knowledge and practical skills in both electrical and mechanical engineering, focusing on systems such as robotics, sensors, control systems, electric power, and data-driven technologies. The course begins with foundational engineering concepts including mathematics, design practice, basic dynamics, electrical engineering, thermodynamics, and stress analysis, alongside hands-on laboratory work and CAD-based design projects. In the second year, students advance to more complex topics such as engineering dynamics, materials science, electronics and control systems, electric machines, power systems, microbiology-inspired applications in biomedical engineering contexts, and research methods. There is a strong emphasis on real-world application through simulation, modelling, and interdisciplinary design work. The final year focuses on independent and advanced study, including a major engineering project, along with specialist modules in electronics, sensors, control systems, sustainability, ethics, reliability, and advanced materials. Students also explore management and environmental responsibility in engineering contexts. Throughout the degree, practical learning, lab experience, and problem-solving are central, preparing graduates for careers in industries such as robotics, automotive systems, aerospace, renewable energy, and automation. The program aims to produce engineers capable of integrating mechanical systems with electronic intelligence to solve modern technological challenges across multiple sectors.
