COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Sociology program explores the major social issues shaping contemporary society, including race, migration, inequality, health, technology, crime, politics, gender, and global change. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in sociology, anthropology, political studies, and research methods while examining social divisions, political ideologies, culture, and international relations. The second year develops deeper analytical and practical research skills through modules on health and illness, power and society, gender, race and ethnicity, global sociology, employment, and social research methods, alongside opportunities for work-based learning and criminology studies. Students critically investigate how institutions, economies, and social structures influence everyday life and inequality. In the final year, students undertake an independent sociology dissertation and can specialise in topics such as migration, youth and adulthood, prisons, social media and technology, racial identities, gender and intimacy, humanitarianism, and justice. The course encourages independent thinking, critical analysis, and real-world application of sociological knowledge. Through research projects, presentations, placements, and policy analysis, students gain transferable skills in communication, data analysis, teamwork, and problem-solving, preparing them for careers in research, education, public policy, social services, media, criminal justice, and community development.
