COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Philosophy program offers a broad and intellectually engaging study of philosophical ideas across three years, combining historical perspectives with contemporary debates. In Year 1, students build foundational skills through modules such as Reason and Argument, Ethics, Human Nature, Theory of Knowledge, and God, Religion and Philosophy, while also exploring diverse philosophical voices and political or social theory. These modules encourage critical thinking about morality, society, gender, religion, knowledge, and human identity. Year 2 deepens philosophical understanding through the study of Ancient Greek Philosophy, Early Modern Philosophy, Ethics for the 21st Century, and Language and Reality. Students can also choose specialist options including Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Law, Philosophy of Happiness and Wellbeing, Aesthetics, and Philosophy of Economics, allowing them to connect philosophy with modern social, legal, scientific, and artistic issues. In Year 3, students complete an independent dissertation on a philosophical topic of their choice and can specialise further through modules such as Environmental Philosophy, Thought and Consciousness, Buddhist Philosophy, Moral Vision, Paradoxes, and Foundations of Continental Philosophy. Throughout the program, students develop advanced analytical, research, communication, and problem-solving skills while engaging with contemporary issues such as artificial intelligence, climate change, ethics, consciousness, and social justice, preparing them for diverse professional and academic careers.
