COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Media, Journalism and Publishing degree explores how media content is created, analysed, and distributed across print and digital platforms, preparing students for careers in journalism, publishing, and the wider creative industries. In Year 1, students build foundations in media theory, history, content creation, design, storytelling, media law, and ethics, while developing practical writing, editing, and visual communication skills alongside an understanding of audiences and markets. Year 2 focuses on applied practice, including journalism techniques, video storytelling, publishing industry analysis, research methods, media marketing, and data-informed decision making. Students also explore specialised areas such as sports journalism, fashion journalism, international publishing, typography, and print media history, often linked with industry standards and NCTJ-aligned skills. Work experience and optional modules broaden professional awareness and employability. In Year 3, students undertake a major dissertation or project and deepen their expertise through advanced study in areas such as digital journalism, entrepreneurship, media ethics, popular culture, propaganda, and digital product development. They also complete placements or applied practice modules that connect academic learning with real-world industry experience. Across all years, the program emphasises creativity, critical thinking, research, and professional development, equipping graduates with practical and analytical skills for careers in media organisations, publishing houses, journalism, and digital content industries.
