COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fine Art BA (Hons) curriculum combines studio practice, critical theory and professional development to help students grow as independent contemporary artists. In Year 1, students build a foundation in experimental art practices, gallery-based learning and contemporary critical theory while exploring themes such as environmental issues, technology, gender, race, decolonisation and global artistic identities. They also begin developing research, analytical writing and creative career skills. Year 2 focuses on extending and consolidating artistic practice through interdisciplinary approaches that connect art with fields such as science, architecture, psychotherapy and technology. Students study accessibility and inclusivity in the arts while expanding their understanding of contemporary culture and critical environments. Opportunities for creative industry placements and independent studies allow students to gain practical experience and professional insight. In Year 3, students undertake advanced research, independent professional projects and a major creative project that reflects their personal artistic direction. They develop sophisticated research and communication skills through critical analysis of contemporary art and cultural theory, culminating in an extended scholarly essay and a substantial body of creative work. Throughout the course, students strengthen their artistic identity, critical thinking, technical abilities and professional confidence while preparing for careers in the arts, cultural industries or further academic study.
