COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Communication, Media and Culture program explores how media, communication, and cultural practices shape identity, power, and society in a rapidly changing digital world. In the first year, students build foundational skills in writing, research, and critical analysis while studying core ideas in communication, culture, media systems, and digital cultures, alongside practical work in text production and creative writing. The second year develops more advanced understanding through topics such as digital identities, persuasive communication, audience studies, research methods, and the role of media in society, with opportunities for applied learning through web design, news production, organisational communication, and cultural analysis. Students also engage with issues such as gender, globalisation, justice, and representation while developing research and employability skills. In the final year, learners complete an independent dissertation on a chosen topic and select specialist modules such as branding, citizen journalism, propaganda, and culture wars, deepening their critical and practical expertise. Across all years, the course combines theory with practice, encouraging students to analyse real-world media systems while developing professional skills relevant to careers in journalism, media production, public relations, digital content creation, and cultural industries. The program also includes independent study and work-related learning opportunities, helping students connect academic knowledge with professional practice and prepare for careers in the media and communication sector.
