COURSE CURRICULUM

The accelerated Adult Nursing programme combines academic study with extensive clinical practice to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required for registration as an Adult Nurse. In the first year, the Fundamentals in Nursing module introduces students to contemporary nursing values, professional philosophies, and essential clinical and communication skills that underpin safe and effective nursing practice. Students learn to provide care for individuals from diverse backgrounds while developing self-awareness and a strong professional identity. Nursing Theory and Practice I explores the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence health and wellbeing, enabling students to assess individual needs, plan person-centred care, and promote health across diverse populations. Nursing Theory and Practice II builds on these foundations by focusing on the care of individuals with complex health needs, including those living with multiple long-term conditions. Students develop advanced knowledge and practical skills to deliver high-quality, person-centred care while understanding the challenges associated with complex healthcare delivery. The Practice Assessment: Year One module supports students throughout their clinical placements, ensuring they complete mandatory training, prepare for practice experiences, and achieve required competencies in real healthcare settings. During the second year, the Global Health module examines major global health challenges and the influence of factors such as poverty, inequality, migration, conflict, climate change, economic globalisation, healthcare systems, and stigma on population health outcomes. The Leadership and Transition in Nursing module prepares students for professional registration by developing clinical leadership, critical reflection, self-awareness, and an understanding of leadership theories, policy, research, and change management within healthcare environments. The Research and Practice module enables students to undertake an independent research project through either an empirical study or a literature-based dissertation relevant to nursing practice, strengthening their evidence-based practice and analytical skills. The Practice Assessment: Year Two module continues to support achievement during clinical placements and ensures students demonstrate the competencies required for professional practice. Together, these modules provide a comprehensive blend of theory, research, leadership development, and practical experience, preparing graduates to deliver safe, compassionate, evidence-based, and culturally competent nursing care in a wide range of healthcare settings.
