COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Civil Engineering provides a comprehensive blend of advanced technical knowledge, engineering design, infrastructure management, and research skills. The programme’s core modules cover key areas of modern civil engineering practice. Current Practices in Civil Engineering examines contemporary industry challenges, standards, and innovations, while Advanced Structural Engineering develops expertise in the analysis and design of complex structures. Sustainable Transport Planning and Engineering focuses on the development of efficient, environmentally responsible transportation systems. Managing Organisations and Projects in Civil Engineering equips students with leadership, project management, and organisational skills required in professional practice. Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics explores the behaviour of structures under dynamic and seismic loading conditions, while Advanced Construction Materials investigates the properties, performance, and application of modern construction materials. Geophysical and Geotechnical Investigation and Design develops knowledge of ground conditions, site investigations, and foundation engineering. The programme culminates in a Research Project or Dissertation, enabling students to undertake an independent investigation into a specialised civil engineering topic. Students can further tailor their studies through optional modules such as Advanced Hydraulics and Hydrology, which examines water systems and flood management; Finite Element Analysis, which introduces advanced computational modelling techniques; Condition Assessment and Health Monitoring of Civil Infrastructures, which focuses on evaluating infrastructure performance and safety; and Analysis and Design of Specialised Infrastructure, which explores the design of complex engineering systems.
