The MSc in Building Surveying provides a comprehensive curriculum that develops technical, legal, managerial, and professional expertise required within the construction and property sectors. Core modules include Construction, which examines building technologies, materials, and construction methods, and Project and Contract Management, which focuses on planning, delivering, and controlling construction projects effectively. Law for Surveyors introduces the legal principles relevant to property and construction, while Statutory Control of Buildings explores regulations, compliance requirements, and building safety standards. Building Pathology develops skills in diagnosing building defects, identifying causes of deterioration, and recommending appropriate remedial actions. Professional Practice prepares students for industry responsibilities by covering ethics, client relationships, and professional standards. Conversion and Retrofitting of Buildings focuses on adapting and improving existing structures to meet modern performance, sustainability, and safety requirements. Heritage and Conservation examines the preservation, maintenance, and management of historic and culturally significant buildings. In addition to the core modules, students can choose between an Independent Research Project or an Internship. The research project allows students to investigate a specialised topic in depth and develop advanced analytical and research skills, while the internship provides valuable industry experience and professional networking opportunities.
