COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Applied Child Psychology programme offers a comprehensive curriculum that develops advanced knowledge of child development, behaviour, and psychological research. Students begin by exploring the Child in Context module, which examines the various social, cultural, familial, and environmental factors that influence children's development and wellbeing. Through Social and Cognitive Development in Children, learners gain an in-depth understanding of how children think, learn, communicate, and interact throughout different stages of development. Research Skills for Working with Children and Observational Methods provide students with the practical and methodological expertise required to conduct ethical and effective research involving children and young people. The Developmental Profiles of Language and Learning module focuses on language acquisition, learning processes, and individual differences in development, while Psychological and Behavioural Difficulties in Childhood examines a range of developmental, emotional, and behavioural challenges that may affect children and adolescents. Career Focus and Development supports students in identifying professional pathways and developing the skills required for employment in child-related fields. A key feature of the programme is the Child Psychology Independent Research Project, which allows students to undertake an in-depth investigation into a specialised area of interest, applying advanced research and analytical skills.
