COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes in Cellular Biomedicine is designed to provide students with advanced research training and specialised knowledge in cellular and molecular biomedical sciences. The programme begins with Research Methods and Bioethics, which develops essential skills in scientific investigation, experimental design, data analysis, critical evaluation of research findings, and the ethical principles that guide biomedical research. Cell Culture and Antibody Technology provides practical laboratory training in the cultivation and manipulation of cells, as well as the production and application of antibodies, which are widely used in biomedical research, diagnostics, and therapeutic development. Techniques in Macromolecular Analysis focuses on the study and characterisation of biological macromolecules such as proteins, nucleic acids, and other complex biomolecules. Students gain experience with advanced analytical methods used to investigate molecular structure, function, and interactions, which are essential in modern biomedical research. The Research Project is the major component of the programme and allows students to undertake an extensive independent investigation under the supervision of experienced academic researchers. Through this project, students apply advanced laboratory techniques, research methodologies, and analytical skills to explore a specialised area of cellular biomedicine in depth. Together, these modules provide a strong combination of theoretical understanding and practical research experience, preparing graduates for careers in biomedical research, biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, healthcare sciences, and further academic study, including doctoral research programmes.
