The MRes in Biotechnology combines advanced research training with specialised biotechnology knowledge to prepare students for scientific careers and further research study. The programme includes core modules that develop both theoretical understanding and practical research skills. Research Methods and Bioethics provides students with essential knowledge in experimental design, data analysis, scientific communication, and the ethical considerations involved in biological and biomedical research. Special Topics in Biotechnology explores contemporary developments, emerging technologies, and current challenges within the biotechnology sector, helping students understand how scientific innovations are applied in industry and research. The Research Project forms the central component of the degree, allowing students to undertake an extensive independent investigation under academic supervision, applying advanced laboratory techniques and research methodologies to a specific area of biotechnology. In addition to the core modules, students choose one optional module to tailor their studies according to their interests and career goals. Business and Enterprise introduces commercial and entrepreneurial aspects of biotechnology, including innovation and business development. Cell Culture and Antibody Technology focuses on laboratory techniques used in biomedical research and biopharmaceutical production. Molecular Biology examines genetic and cellular processes that underpin modern biotechnology applications. Techniques in Macromolecular Analysis develops expertise in analysing proteins, nucleic acids, and other biological molecules using advanced analytical methods.
