COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Creative Writing programme offers a flexible curriculum that allows students to specialise in areas that best match their creative interests and professional aspirations. Students select two 40-credit optional modules from Fiction, Writing for Stage, Radio and Screen, Poetry, and Creative Nonfiction. Each module is taught by widely published and highly regarded writers who are actively working within their respective fields, ensuring that students benefit from current industry knowledge and professional expertise. Through small workshop-based classes, students receive detailed feedback from both tutors and peers, enabling them to refine their writing techniques, deepen their understanding of literary craft, and develop original work to a high standard. Alongside creative practice, students gain valuable insight into the writing and publishing industries, with guidance tailored to their chosen genres and career goals. The programme also includes core modules that provide a strong foundation in professional writing and research. Writing and the Writing Industries explores the contemporary literary landscape, publishing processes, and professional opportunities available to writers. The Dissertation offers students the opportunity to undertake an extended independent project, allowing them to produce a substantial body of creative work supported by critical reflection or research. Together, these modules foster advanced creative, analytical, and professional skills, preparing graduates for successful careers in writing, publishing, media, and related creative industries.
