COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Animation programme offers a focused curriculum that combines creative exploration, advanced practice, research, and professional development. The core module Animation Aesthetics and Practice enables students to investigate the artistic, technical, and conceptual aspects of animation while developing their own visual style and creative approach. Through experimentation and critical analysis, students enhance their understanding of animation techniques, storytelling methods, and contemporary industry practices. The Culture and Collaboration module encourages students to engage with cultural, social, and creative contexts while developing the communication and teamwork skills required for successful collaboration within multidisciplinary creative environments. A central component of the programme is the Masters Personal Project, which provides an opportunity for students to undertake an extensive independent project that reflects their individual interests, creative ambitions, and professional goals. This project allows them to demonstrate advanced technical competence, critical thinking, and original creative practice. Students can further tailor their studies through optional modules such as Professional Futures, which supports career planning, portfolio development, and employability within the creative industries, or Advancing Research Design: Maximising Your Methods, which strengthens research skills and methodological understanding. Together, these modules provide a balanced combination of practical production, creative experimentation, academic inquiry, and professional preparation. Graduates develop a strong portfolio, advanced animation expertise, and the confidence to pursue careers in animation, digital media, creative production, and related fields.
