COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Law LLM at Nottingham Law School is a specialist and flexible postgraduate programme designed to develop advanced legal knowledge across sport, regulation, human rights, commerce, and international dispute resolution. The course begins with core modules such as Sport Law and Regulation, which provides a foundational and critical understanding of how legal principles apply to sporting activity and the wider governance of sport at national and international levels. Sport IP and Commerce focuses on intellectual property rights within the sports industry, examining how branding, sponsorship, media rights, and commercial value are protected and regulated. European Sports Law and Policy explores the role of European Union law in sport, analysing how EU institutions influence sporting regulation and competition frameworks. Sports and the Human Body addresses the legal and ethical issues surrounding bodily integrity, health, and dignity in sporting participation, offering a critical perspective on athlete welfare and safety. International Dispute Resolution equips students with knowledge of litigation, arbitration, and mediation processes, particularly in commercial and cross-border disputes, while also developing an understanding of strategic decision-making in resolving legal conflicts. Alongside these core areas, students can choose from a wide range of optional modules to tailor their degree to their interests, including Human Rights, Health Law, International Commercial Law, International Energy Law, Technology Law, and Corporate Law. These options allow students to specialise further in areas such as criminal justice, public international law, healthcare regulation, artificial intelligence, corporate governance, and global business law. This structure enables students to build a highly personalised LLM pathway that combines sports law with broader legal disciplines, enhancing both academic depth and professional versatility.
