COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM Law Conversion and SQE 1 Preparation Course is built around a set of core foundational law modules designed to give non-law graduates a complete grounding in the key areas of English and Welsh legal systems, alongside structured preparation for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). The programme begins with Constitutional and Administrative Law, which focuses on the structure and functioning of the state, key constitutional principles, and the operation of major public institutions, including aspects of both domestic and EU-level governance. Students then study Contract Law, which develops understanding of how legally binding agreements are formed, interpreted, and enforced. Criminal Law covers the principles governing criminal liability, offences, and defences within the legal system, while Land Law explores the rules relating to ownership, interests in land, and real property rights. Tort Law examines civil wrongs and liability for harm, including areas such as negligence and duty of care. The Law of Trusts module introduces equitable principles relating to the management and holding of property on behalf of others. Legal and Professional Environment (including EU Law) provides a broader understanding of the English legal system, including its sources of law, institutional structure, and a foundational overview of European Union law and its legal framework. Alongside these academic modules, students must complete an Employability requirement, which supports the development of practical legal experience and career readiness. This can be achieved through approved legal work experience or participation in structured activities such as the NLS Magistrates Challenge, ensuring students engage with real or simulated legal practice. The programme is designed to combine rigorous academic study with practical and professional development, ensuring students are fully prepared for SQE 1 assessment and future legal practice, while also building transferable skills essential for work as a solicitor.
