COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM International Commercial Law at Nottingham Trent University provides advanced specialist knowledge of the legal principles governing international business, trade, and commercial relationships in a globalised economy. The programme is centred on the International Commercial Transactions module, which develops a comprehensive understanding of the scope, operation, and practical application of commercial law in cross-border transactions, enabling students to critically evaluate complex legal issues arising in international trade. Students can further specialise through a range of optional modules covering key areas of global commerce and regulation. International Carriage of Goods examines the legal framework governing the movement of goods across borders, including international treaties and the challenges involved in their interpretation and enforcement. Corporate Governance explores how large corporations are managed and regulated, focusing on balancing corporate power, shareholder interests, accountability, innovation, and wider social responsibilities. Corporate Social Responsibility investigates the development, theories, and practical implications of responsible business conduct, analysing how organisations address ethical, social, and environmental concerns within national and international contexts. International Dispute Resolution provides insight into litigation, arbitration, and mediation, helping students understand how international commercial disputes are resolved and enforced across jurisdictions. International Competition Law focuses on the regulation of market power, anti-competitive practices, and consumer protection in an increasingly integrated global economy. Global Innovation and Intellectual Property examines innovation, patent law, and intellectual property protection within both domestic and international legal frameworks, including issues linked to public health and sustainable development. The programme culminates in a substantial 60-credit Dissertation, allowing students to conduct independent research on a specialist area of commercial law under expert academic supervision. Throughout the course, students develop advanced legal research, analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills while gaining a sophisticated understanding of international commercial regulation.
