COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM Barristers Training Course provides a comprehensive and practice-oriented curriculum designed to develop the legal knowledge, advocacy skills, and professional competencies required for a successful career at the Bar. Students study Criminal Litigation and Evidence and Civil Litigation and Evidence, gaining a detailed understanding of the procedural rules, evidential requirements, and practical considerations involved in criminal and civil legal proceedings. Advocacy training forms a central part of the programme through Civil Advocacy, Examination in Chief, and Cross Examination modules, which develop courtroom communication, persuasion, questioning techniques, and case presentation skills essential for barristers. The Opinion Writing and Drafting modules focus on producing accurate, clear, and professionally structured legal documents, while Conference Skills prepares students to communicate effectively with clients, gather information, provide advice, and manage professional consultations. Professional Ethics ensures students understand the ethical responsibilities, standards of conduct, and regulatory requirements expected within legal practice. The Legal Research module develops advanced skills in locating, analysing, and applying legal sources to support effective argumentation and decision-making. Students can further enhance their academic and professional development through either a Dissertation or a Reflective Report, allowing them to explore a specialised legal topic or critically evaluate their professional learning experience. Together, these modules provide rigorous legal training and practical advocacy experience, preparing graduates for pupillage, professional practice, and a successful career as a barrister.
