COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology curriculum combines legal education with the study of crime, justice, and criminal behaviour, providing students with a broad understanding of both disciplines. In Year 1, students develop foundational legal knowledge through modules covering contract law, public law, legal practice, and the legal environment, while also exploring key criminological topics such as the construction of crime and the operation of the justice system. These modules help students build essential research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. In Year 2, students continue their legal studies through civil practice, criminal law, tort law, and international, European, and comparative law, while also examining theories of crime and the management of justice. This combination allows students to understand both legal frameworks and the wider social factors that influence crime and criminal justice. In the final year, students undertake advanced study in land law and trusts while selecting from a range of professional practice and specialist law options, including commercial law, human rights, family law, international law, intellectual property law, and criminal justice topics. Students also choose criminology-focused modules exploring themes such as media and crime, cultural criminology, crime and race, gender and crime, hate crime, drugs and justice, youth offending, and social inequalities. Together, these modules develop strong legal, analytical, and research skills, preparing graduates for careers in law, criminal justice, public policy, policing, and related fields.
