COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Wildlife Conservation programme provides a thorough understanding of ecological principles, conservation science, and wildlife management, preparing students to address contemporary environmental challenges. In Year 1, students develop a strong foundation in animal biology, behaviour, biodiversity conservation, ecology, and wildlife issues. Modules such as Animal Structure, Function and Adaptation, Behaviour, Biodiversity Conservation, Conservation Organisations and Wildlife Issues, Ecological Census Techniques, and Principles of Ecology introduce the scientific knowledge and practical skills required to study and protect wildlife. In Year 2, students build on this foundation through modules focusing on Applied Habitat Management, Behavioural and Evolutionary Ecology, Wildlife Population Biology, and Wildlife Field Techniques and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). They also gain an understanding of environmental law, policy, and research methods, enabling them to investigate and manage conservation issues effectively. In Year 3, the programme emphasises advanced conservation practice through modules such as Conservation Ecology, Wildlife Management, and Wildlife Conflicts and Resolution. Students also undertake an independent Dissertation, allowing them to conduct in-depth research on a topic of personal interest. Optional field courses in Africa or the United Kingdom provide valuable opportunities to study wildlife and ecosystems in diverse environments. This curriculum equips graduates with scientific knowledge, fieldwork expertise, research skills, and practical conservation experience, preparing them for careers in wildlife conservation, environmental management, ecological consultancy, research, and related environmental sectors.
