COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport Science and Mathematics programme combines advanced mathematical techniques with the scientific study of sport and human performance, providing students with a unique blend of analytical and practical skills. In Year 1, students establish a strong foundation in mathematics through modules in Calculus, Data Analysis, and Linear Algebra and Computation, while also studying core sport science subjects including sport and exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, and human movement science. In Year 2, students develop more advanced mathematical knowledge through Differential Equations, Probability and Statistical Inference, and Mathematical Enterprise, alongside applied studies in sport physiology, sport psychology, and movement science. This integrated approach helps students understand how mathematical methods can be used to analyse performance, interpret data, and solve complex problems in sport and exercise contexts. In Year 3, the programme focuses on advanced analytical and research skills through modules such as Experimental Design and Machine Learning, Project and Professional Skills, and Applied Human Movement Science for Sport. Students can further personalise their studies through optional modules in areas including numerical analysis, dynamical systems, stochastic processes, medical statistics, financial modelling, strength and conditioning, advanced sport psychology, and performance analysis. This interdisciplinary curriculum equips graduates with strong quantitative, scientific, and problem-solving abilities, preparing them for careers in sport analytics, data science, performance analysis, research, education, and other mathematics-related professions.
