COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport Science and Coaching programme provides a balanced combination of sport science knowledge and practical coaching expertise, preparing students to support athlete development and performance across a variety of sporting environments. In Year 1, students develop a strong foundation in key scientific disciplines, including sport and exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, and human movement science. They also explore the cultural and social aspects of sport, gain an introduction to coaching practice, and develop essential academic and research skills. In Year 2, the focus shifts towards applying scientific principles to coaching through modules such as Coaching Science, Applying Coaching Theory to Practice, and Analysis of Human Movement Science for Sport. Students also enhance their professional skills and can tailor their learning through optional modules in applied physiology, sport psychology, or the sociology of sport, health, and the body. In Year 3, students undertake a Sport Project and Dissertation, enabling them to conduct independent research in an area of interest. Advanced Coaching Practice and Performance, Skill and Expertise in Sport further develop their coaching capabilities. Additional optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as strength and conditioning, performance analysis, sport psychology, talent development, human movement science, sustainability, and contemporary issues in sport. This curriculum equips graduates with the scientific understanding, coaching expertise, and professional skills required for careers in coaching, athlete development, sport performance, and sports development.
