COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science programme provides a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles that underpin sport performance, physical activity, health, and wellbeing. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation by studying sport and exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, human movement science, nutrition, and the social and cultural aspects of sport. They also develop essential academic and research skills that support scientific inquiry and professional practice. In Year 2, students advance their knowledge through applied studies in physiology, sport psychology, human movement science, and sport and exercise nutrition, while gaining practical and professional skills relevant to the industry. They also have the opportunity to specialise further through optional modules such as Clinical Exercise Physiology or Sociology of Sport, Health and the Body. In Year 3, students undertake an independent Sport Project and Dissertation, allowing them to investigate an area of personal and professional interest in depth. Core studies in Applied Sport Science are complemented by a wide range of optional modules, including performance analysis, advanced sport psychology, strength and conditioning, talent development, sport nutrition, environmental physiology, and injury and illness in sport. This flexible and research-informed curriculum equips graduates with advanced scientific knowledge, analytical abilities, and practical skills, preparing them for careers in sport performance, health, fitness, rehabilitation, coaching support, and related sectors.
