COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology with Sociology curriculum integrates core psychological science with sociological theory to explore both individual behaviour and wider social systems. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge through Introduction to Psychology, Research Design and Practice (1), Analysing Data: Methods and Tools (1), Foundations of Social Theory, Privilege and Power: Understanding Social Inequalities, and Identity, Culture and Student Life. These modules introduce key psychological concepts, research methods, and sociological perspectives on inequality, identity, and social structures. In Year 2, students build on this foundation with Brain, Behaviour and Cognition: Understanding the Mind, Social Evolution and Individual Development, Research Design and Practice (2), Analysing Data: Methods and Tools (2), Analytical Thinking in Psychology, and Constructing Modern Societies, alongside a potential placement year for practical experience. In Year 3, students complete a Psychology Research Project and study Psychological Applications to Work Settings while selecting from a range of optional modules. Psychology options include areas such as psychopathology, cyberpsychology, trauma, ageing, sleep, and personality, while sociology options include Cities and Urban Life, Environmental Sociology, Identities and Intimacies, Race, Culture and Society, and Sociology of Harm. Across the programme, students develop strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills while learning to apply psychological and sociological theories to real-world issues, preparing them for careers in psychology, sociology, social research, education, public services, and related professional fields.
