COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology (Developmental Psychology) curriculum combines core psychological knowledge with a specialist focus on human development, learning, and educational psychology. In Year 1, students establish a strong foundation through modules such as Understanding the Self: Psychology 101, Psychology in Action (Developmental Psychology), Exploring Psychological Impact and Change, Research Design and Practice (1), Analysing Data: Methods and Tools (1), and Developing Academic Skills in Psychology. These modules introduce key psychological theories, research methods, and academic skills while exploring developmental processes and human behaviour. In Year 2, students deepen their understanding through Brain, Behaviour and Cognition: Understanding the Mind, Social Evolution and Individual Development, Research Design and Practice (2) (Developmental Psychology), Analytical Thinking in Developmental Psychology, Motivation in Education, and Analysing Data: Methods and Tools (2). These modules examine cognitive development, learning, motivation, and developmental research within educational and social contexts. In Year 3, students undertake a Research Project in Developmental Psychology and study Psychological Applications to Work Settings alongside Psychology, Educational Support Needs and Inclusion. A variety of optional modules allows students to explore specialist topics such as trauma in children and adolescents, language and literacy development, social development, psychopathology, identity, cyberpsychology, and criminal behaviour. Throughout the program, students develop strong research, analytical, communication, and critical-thinking skills while gaining a thorough understanding of developmental processes and educational support needs, preparing them for careers in education, psychology-related professions, research, and community services.
