COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology (Criminal Psychology) curriculum combines a strong foundation in psychology with specialist knowledge of criminal behaviour and the criminal justice system. In Year 1, students develop essential psychological knowledge through modules such as Understanding the Self: Psychology 101, Psychology in Action (Criminal Psychology), Exploring Psychological Impact and Change, Research Design and Practice (1), Analysing Data: Methods and Tools (1), and Developing Academic Skills in Psychology. These modules introduce key psychological concepts, research methodologies, and analytical skills. In Year 2, students expand their understanding through Brain, Behaviour and Cognition: Understanding the Mind, Social Evolution and Individual Development, Research Design and Practice (2) (Criminal Psychology), Analytical Thinking in Criminal Psychology, Psychology in the Criminal Justice System, and Analysing Data: Methods and Tools (2). These modules explore the psychological factors influencing criminal behaviour and the application of psychology within legal and justice settings. In Year 3, students undertake a Research Project in Criminal Psychology and study Psychological Applications to Work Settings alongside Psychology of Criminal Behaviour. A range of optional modules allows further specialization in areas such as mental health, cyberpsychology, mindfulness, ageing, family psychology, sleep, advanced statistics, sexual offending, and psychopathology. Throughout the program, students develop strong research, analytical, critical-thinking, and communication skills while gaining valuable insights into criminal behaviour, forensic psychology, and the criminal justice system, preparing them for careers in psychology, criminal justice, research, and related professional fields.
