COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Product Design curriculum provides a balanced combination of design creativity, technical knowledge, and professional practice through a structured three-year learning journey. In Year 1, students establish a strong foundation through modules such as Introduction to Design, Design and Technical Communication, Technology for Designers, and Design Innovation and Manufacture. These modules introduce essential design principles, technical drawing and communication methods, manufacturing processes, and the role of innovation in product development. In Year 2, students expand their skills through Professional Practice, Advanced Design and Technical Communication, Technology, Society and Sustainable Futures, Exploring Design for Society, and an Elective Design Project. This stage focuses on developing advanced technical abilities, understanding the social and environmental impact of design, and applying creative solutions to real-world challenges. Students also gain valuable insight into professional design practice and emerging industry trends. In Year 3, the curriculum emphasizes independent learning and industry-focused projects through modules such as Exploration and Context, Commercial Project, Self-Directed Project (Technology and Product Design), and the Degree Show Exhibition. These modules allow students to undertake substantial design projects, demonstrate innovation and technical expertise, and showcase their work to industry professionals. Throughout the program, students develop strong problem-solving, communication, design, and engineering skills, preparing them for careers in product design, design engineering, manufacturing, innovation, and related technology-driven industries.
