COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physics curriculum provides a strong foundation in fundamental physics while allowing students to explore specialist areas through a combination of core and optional modules. In Year 1, students develop essential knowledge and skills through modules such as Mathematical Techniques, Classical and Quantum Mechanics, Introduction to Programming for Physics, Properties of Matter, Concepts of Astronomy, and Instrumentation and Physics Skills. These modules introduce key physical principles, computational methods, experimental techniques, and astronomical concepts. In Year 2, students build on this foundation by studying Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Fundamental Forces, The Quantum World, Modern Optics and Image Processing, and Project Management and Enterprise. Students can also choose from specialist options including Nuclear Materials Science, Stars and Galaxies, or Anatomy and Diagnostic Imaging, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests. In Year 3, the curriculum focuses on advanced topics such as Solid State Physics, Applied Fluid Dynamics, and Project and Professional Skills, helping students develop expertise in research, analysis, and scientific problem-solving. Additional optional modules include Practical Electronics, Physics for Sustainable Development, Cosmology and General Relativity, Laboratory Interfacing and System Control, as well as specialist subjects such as Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors, Satellite Instrumentation and Observation, or Physics of the Human Body. The program equips graduates with strong scientific, technical, and analytical skills for careers in research, technology, engineering, and related industries.
