The BSc (Hons) Physics with Nuclear Technology curriculum combines a strong foundation in physics with specialist knowledge of nuclear science and technology through a structured three-year program. In Year 1, students develop essential scientific and technical skills through modules such as Mathematical Techniques, Classical and Quantum Mechanics, Introduction to Programming for Physics, Properties of Matter, Concepts of Astronomy, and Instrumentation and Physics Skills. These modules provide a comprehensive understanding of core physics principles, computational methods, experimental techniques, and observational science. In Year 2, students build on this foundation by studying Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Fundamental Forces, The Quantum World, Modern Optics and Image Processing, and Project Management and Enterprise. The specialist module Nuclear Materials Science introduces the properties, behaviour, and applications of materials used in nuclear technologies and energy systems. In Year 3, the curriculum focuses on advanced and industry-relevant topics including Applied Fluid Dynamics, Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors, Laboratory Interfacing and System Control, and Project and Professional Skills. These modules develop expertise in reactor technologies, system monitoring, control processes, and professional scientific practice. Students can further tailor their studies by selecting an optional module in Practical Electronics, Physics for Sustainable Development, or Solid State Physics. Throughout the program, students gain strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities, preparing them for careers in nuclear energy, research, engineering, healthcare technologies, and other advanced scientific industries.
