COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physics with Astrophysics curriculum combines fundamental physics with specialized astrophysics studies, providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to understand both the physical universe and the celestial phenomena within it. In Year 1, students build a strong scientific foundation through modules such as Mathematical Techniques, Classical and Quantum Mechanics, Introduction to Programming for Physics, Properties of Matter, Concepts of Astronomy, and Instrumentation and Physics Skills. These modules develop essential mathematical, computational, experimental, and observational skills while introducing key concepts in physics and astronomy. In Year 2, students deepen their understanding of advanced physics through Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Fundamental Forces, The Quantum World, Modern Optics and Image Processing, and Project Management and Enterprise. The inclusion of Stars and Galaxies allows students to explore the structure, evolution, and behaviour of celestial objects and astronomical systems. In Year 3, the focus shifts toward advanced and applied topics including Applied Fluid Dynamics, Satellite Instrumentation and Observation, Cosmology and General Relativity, and Project and Professional Skills. These modules provide insight into space exploration technologies, the large-scale structure of the universe, and modern astrophysical research. Students can further tailor their studies by choosing an optional module in Practical Electronics, Physics for Sustainable Development, or Solid State Physics. The program develops strong analytical, technical, and research skills, preparing graduates for careers in science, technology, space research, and related industries.
