COURSE CURRICULUM

The Paramedic Science curriculum is designed to develop the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional capabilities required for modern paramedic practice through a progressive three-year structure. In Year 1, students establish a strong foundation through modules such as Foundations of Paramedic Practice, Human Health and Illness, and Professional and Legal Issues in Paramedic Practice. These modules introduce key concepts in patient assessment, healthcare delivery, human anatomy and physiology, ethical practice, and the legal responsibilities of paramedics. In Year 2, students expand their clinical expertise through modules including Developing Paramedic Practice, Pharmacology in Practice, Research and Evidence-Based Practice, Public Health and Wellbeing, and Paediatric and Obstetric Practice. This stage focuses on enhancing clinical decision-making, understanding medication management, applying research to practice, promoting public health, and providing specialist care for children and maternity patients. In Year 3, students prepare for advanced professional practice through modules such as Professional Practice, Supporting and Developing Others, Complex and Specialist Issues, Dissertation Project, and Enhancing Paramedic Practice. These modules strengthen leadership, critical thinking, research skills, and the ability to manage complex healthcare situations. The curriculum encourages evidence-based practice, teamwork, and professional development, ensuring graduates are equipped to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate emergency and urgent care while adapting to the evolving demands of the paramedic profession and wider healthcare sector.
