COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Therapy curriculum is designed to develop students’ knowledge, practical skills, and professional competence through a progressive three-year learning journey. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in occupational therapy through modules such as Foundations of Occupational Therapy, Professional Skills and Knowledge in Occupational Therapy, and Introduction to Evidence-Based Practice. They also explore the impact of occupational performance, assessment techniques, and environmental influences on participation in daily activities. Practice-Based Learning 1 provides early exposure to real-world professional settings. In Year 2, the focus shifts toward applying knowledge in more complex situations through modules including Evaluating the Occupational Therapy Evidence Base, Maximising Occupational Performance, Innovation in Occupational Therapy Practice, and Promotion of Occupation for Wellbeing and Health. Students develop advanced clinical reasoning, evidence-based decision-making, and innovative approaches to supporting individuals’ independence and wellbeing. Practice Based Learning 2 and 3 further strengthen practical experience across diverse settings. In Year 3, students prepare for professional practice through modules such as Transitions to Practice, Research for Occupational Therapy Practice, and Focus on Practice. These modules enhance leadership, research, and specialist practice skills while encouraging lifelong professional development. Practice-Based Learning 4 enables students to consolidate their learning and demonstrate professional competence. By graduation, students are equipped to deliver effective, person-centered occupational therapy services across a wide range of healthcare, community, and social care environments.
