COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics curriculum provides a comprehensive and progressive study of both pure and applied mathematics, equipping students with advanced analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills. In Year 1, students develop a strong mathematical foundation through modules covering linear algebra, calculus, discrete mathematics, mathematical analysis, pure mathematics, and data analysis. These subjects introduce essential concepts and techniques that underpin more advanced mathematical study. In Year 2, students build on this knowledge by exploring linear algebra applications, differential equations, probability, statistical inference, advanced calculus, cryptography, and computational complexity. The inclusion of Mathematical Enterprise helps students understand how mathematical skills can be applied in professional and commercial contexts. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics through core modules in numerical analysis, dynamical systems, linear systems, and professional project work, which develops research, communication, and independent learning skills. Students can further tailor their studies by selecting specialist options such as differential and integral equations, stochastic processes, optimisation, machine learning, experimental design, partial differential equations, medical statistics, financial modelling, graph theory, and combinatorics. This flexible structure allows students to pursue areas aligned with their interests and career goals. Together, these modules provide a strong balance of theoretical understanding and practical application, preparing graduates for careers in data science, finance, technology, research, education, analytics, and other mathematically intensive fields.
