COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics with Data Science curriculum combines advanced mathematics, data science, artificial intelligence, and computing to equip students with the skills needed to analyse complex data and solve real-world problems. In Year 1, students build a strong mathematical foundation through modules in pure mathematics, calculus, linear algebra, data analysis, mathematical analysis, and discrete mathematics. These subjects develop essential analytical and computational skills that support later study in data science and machine learning. In Year 2, students deepen their mathematical knowledge through linear algebra, probability, statistical inference, cryptography, and computational complexity, while also gaining expertise in information and database engineering and the foundations of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The Mathematical Enterprise module helps students understand how mathematical and technical skills are applied within professional and industry settings. In the final year, students focus on advanced and specialised topics through modules in optimisation, artificial intelligence, distributed database engineering, and a project-based module that develops research, communication, and professional skills. Students can further tailor their studies by choosing from options such as machine learning, stochastic processes, medical statistics, financial modelling, graph theory, and combinatorics. This combination of mathematics, computing, and data science provides graduates with strong quantitative, programming, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. The programme prepares students for careers in data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, business analytics, finance, technology, research, and other rapidly growing sectors that rely on data-driven decision-making.
