COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Physics curriculum combines advanced mathematical methods with fundamental and applied physics, providing students with a strong understanding of both disciplines and their interconnected nature. In Year 1, students establish a solid foundation through the study of calculus, data analysis, linear algebra, classical and quantum mechanics, properties of matter, and practical physics skills. These modules develop essential analytical, computational, and laboratory competencies while introducing key scientific principles. In Year 2, students expand their knowledge by exploring differential equations, advanced calculus, thermodynamics, statistical physics, fundamental forces, and quantum theory. The Mathematical Enterprise module also helps students understand the application of mathematical and scientific skills within professional and industrial settings. In the final year, students undertake a project-focused module that develops research, communication, and professional skills while studying advanced topics such as partial differential equations and applied fluid dynamics. Students can tailor their degree further by choosing from specialist mathematical modules, including differential and integral equations, numerical analysis, dynamical systems, and linear systems. They can also specialise in physics through options such as solid-state physics or cosmology and general relativity. This combination of theoretical understanding, practical experimentation, and advanced mathematical modelling prepares graduates for careers in physics, engineering, data science, research, finance, technology, education, and other sectors that require strong quantitative, analytical, and scientific expertise.
