COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Games Design programme focuses on developing the creative, technical, and analytical skills needed to design engaging and playable video games. In the first year, students are introduced to core foundations through modules such as Games Studies, Introducing Gameplay, Introducing 3D Digital Art, and Programming Gameplay. These establish an understanding of game systems, basic design principles, and the technical skills required to begin building interactive experiences. In the second year, students advance their expertise through System and Level Design and Games Design Studio, supported by Co Lab: Research, Exploration and Risk-taking, which encourages experimentation and innovation. Optional modules such as Storyboarding, Performance for Motion Capture, 3D Materials and Exploration, Sound Art & Design, Tabletop Game Development, Interactive Narrative, Open-source 3D Art, and Exploring Creative Coding allow students to specialise and expand their creative and technical abilities. In the final year, students focus on professional development and advanced project work through Games Entrepreneurship, Screen Arts Collaboration, and a major Games Design Project. This stage emphasises industry readiness, teamwork, and portfolio creation. The course combines design theory with practical development skills, enabling students to understand how gameplay systems, mechanics, and player experience interact. Graduates leave with a strong portfolio and are prepared for careers such as game designer, level designer, systems designer, or gameplay developer within the games and interactive media industries.
