COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Games Design – London programme develops students’ skills in designing, building, and refining interactive video game experiences with a strong focus on gameplay systems and player engagement. In the first year, students are introduced to core principles through Games Studies, Introducing Gameplay, Introducing 3D Digital Art, and Programming Gameplay. These modules build foundational knowledge in game design theory, basic programming, and visual development, helping students understand how games function as interactive systems. In the second year, students advance into more complex areas through System and Level Design and Games Design Studio, supported by Co Lab: Research, Exploration and Risk-taking, which encourages experimentation and creative problem-solving. Optional modules such as Character Ideation, Interactive Narrative, and Tabletop Game Development allow students to expand their creative thinking and explore storytelling, mechanics, and alternative design approaches. In the final year, students focus on professional preparation and independent production through Games Entrepreneurship, Screen Arts Collaboration, and a major Games Design Project. This stage emphasises industry readiness, teamwork, and portfolio development. The course combines technical skills, creative design, and critical thinking to help students understand how gameplay systems shape player experience. Graduates leave with a strong portfolio or showreel and are prepared for roles such as game designer, level designer, systems designer, or gameplay programmer in the games and interactive entertainment industries.
