COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Forensic Science programme develops students’ ability to apply scientific methods to criminal investigations and broader forensic contexts. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Introduction to Forensic Biology, Introduction to Forensic Analysis, Forensic Chemistry, The Forensic Process, Technical Skills for Forensic Science, and Professional Skills for Forensic Science. These introduce core scientific principles and the practical techniques used in forensic work. In the second year, students develop more advanced skills through modules including Crime Scene Investigation and Forensic Photography, Biological Techniques in Forensic Science, Ethics and Law for Forensic Science, Forensic Casework Examination, and Forensic Analysis. Optional modules such as Introduction to Suspicious Death Investigation, Forensic Imaging and Image Processing, and Microbial Structure, Identification and Distribution allow students to explore specialised areas of interest. In the final year, students focus on advanced techniques and independent research through Molecular Techniques for Identification, Drugs of Abuse, and a Research Project. They further specialise through optional modules such as Advanced Crime Scene Investigation, Communicating Science and Technology, Forensic Microbiology, Ballistics and Firearms, and Forensic Ecology and Anthropology. The programme combines biology, chemistry, and investigative science with legal and ethical understanding, preparing graduates for careers in forensic laboratories, law enforcement, crime scene investigation, and other scientific or analytical roles where evidence-based decision-making is essential.
